published site - customer requirements

I was approached back in september by a lady (Julie) who wants to earn some extra cash by doing peoples ironing.
She wanted a website so that people could look up her details when that had lost her flyer that she had put in people's doors around Whitchurch.
She couldn't pay me but said she would baby sit anytime.

I registered the domain with get dotted, (www.juliesironing.com) set up the hosting with Freeola put up a holding page just to show her that it exists and then thought about doing this really amazing designer site.
Trouble was I could never get round to it.

The lectures of Information Design had taught me about giving the customer what they want, something they can understand easily, their customers can understand easily and something that I can easily understand when I come back to re-edit the site some time in the future.

So the Tuesday evening of 21st October 08 after my kids were gone to bed I set about producing a very simple site that suited her and not me.

Straight forward pictures downloaded from the internet, prepared up in fireworks.
I took the common background colour from the pics and used that for the text colour and then found the contrasting background colour.
She had supplied the text.
I also wanted to reflect some warmth of her personality.
Most of the other ironing service type websites were blue and white which although clean looking had a cold appearance.

Well before midnight I had finished it, I uploaded to freeola.

Next day after I sent her a text and she phoned back immediately very excited about the website and the colours I had chosen, and the layout etc.

I was glad to get that project off my desk, she was over the moon.

And next time I get asked to do something I won't sit on it wondering how I am going to make it look like the next big thing.

A nice clear website - I particularly like the use of an iron symbol as the bullet points!
